Road

After the Success of British riders Mark Cavendish and Bradley Wiggins at the 2009 Tour de France Road racing in the UK has never enjoyed a better profile, on top of this we now have Sky TV pumping millions into the sport via their continental based British ‘Team sky’ and a host of newly sponsored UK teams making the future look promising and exciting for many years to come.

Besides gearing up for the Road events at the 2012 London Olympics we now have a well established Tour of Britain, which in recent years has acted as a shop window for up and coming British riders to get noticed by the large Continental teams and helped them secure contracts.

Kirklees is a region that can be extremely proud of it’s road race heritage, over many years it has spawned countless Champions in the road race discipline, among them Britain’s first Tour de France stage winner Brian Robinson, multi National road Champion’s Lisa Brambani and Albert Hitchen and more recently Huddersfield’s Ed Clancy and Tom Murray.

Geographically we are ideally placed and fortunate to have a full road calendar from March through to September, with regular Youth events being promoted by the excellent CDNW in Lancashire and the White Rose Youth league in West and South Yorkshire, not forgetting that come 2011 we will have our very own dedicated race circuit here at Spen Valley Sports College enabling us to promote our own series of events.

Through our wealth of qualified coaches, facilities and experience the Kirklees Cycling Academy is committed to helping any Youngster achieve their aspiration of following in the wheel tracks of our Road racing greats.

We look forward to welcoming you to our club.
