Whos up for a race. If enough KCA riders are taking part the KCA gazebo will be coming out. Who's racing
As the Road Racing season draws to a close the KCA race team needs to find new interests for the autumn and winter months. Tim and Thomas Stuck to what they know and ventured out on the Ravensthorpe120 cycle sportive. Sam continued the cycling theme when he competed in the Winter Cyclocross race of the season at Middleton Park Leeds.
George, Seth and Isobel were still on their bikes and entered the Holmfirth Duathlon. The first race saw George tackle the Run-Bike-Run course. After the run George was in the middle of the field as he entered Transition 1, when he finally found his bike, he was off, and moved through the field to to get into the top 10. Back on the run he made up further places to finish in 5th place.
Seth was up next and after the 1st run Seth was in 19th out of a field of 38 and over a minute behind the 2 leaders. In the 5 laps of the Brooksbank circuit Seth had moved up 16 Places into 3rd place and 10 seconds behind the leaders, on to the final run section and the 2 leaders pulled a little gap on Seth and 4th and 5th place hunted him down, but he held on to 3rd place in only his second ever Duathlon.
Isobel was next and after a strong first run she entered T1 in 2nd place and was off on the bike. Isobel battled all the way around the bike course and lost 1 place to the eventual winner. While in Transition 2, 2 others had closed the gap on Isobel, she left T2 with the other 2 girls and pulled away on the run to hold on to 3rd place, This was Isobel's first ever podium, She has always been a strong runner and her bike skills are improing every time I she her.
And finally, no bike involved, just shin pads and football boots. Austin had his first ever competitive football match. Austin has raced all year and the highlight of his short cycling career was winning the 4 stage race in Holland earlier in the year. Austin wanted to try somehing new and football won. Austin took the field for Rawmarsh St Josephs, the match didnt go as planned but he loved every minute of the game.
Well done to all the KCA race team that tried something new this week. Keep us informed of all your activities through the Autumn and Winter months.
