Another fine weekend of racing

By Andy Jackson, Apr 24 2017 08:20PM

After the White Rose Youth League on Wednesday, all the races this weekend were further a field. We saw a team of 4 head west to race in the North-West Youth Series at Southport. Austin, Josh, Mackenzie and Sam all competed in 2 races each and the pick of the riders was Mackenzie who won both the short race and the long race.

Sunday the team headed North to Middlesbrough and along with the 4 riders from Southport Alfie, Callum and Seth also raced. More success saw Austin win his first ever race, he dominated the race from start to finish and took the win comfortably. In the under 10 Race which included Sam and Alfie, who are both improving week on week. Mackenzie and Seth got away with a group of 7 riders and Mackenzie set a high pace to try and thin the pack down, but the pack stayed together. As the riders approached the last bend Seth went on the attack and got some distance between him and the group and crossed the line to win by 3 bike Lengths. Mackenzie was involved in the sprint for the podium places, but was pipped on the line.

Callum and Josh raced in the under 12 and 14 race. The races in the North East are considerably longer than in Yorkshire and the length of the races were really good for both the riders. They both had strong starts and dropped off in the middle and had a spurt near the end.

Well done to the KCA race team
